Stitch & Story Crewel Embroidery Workshop: Wild Goats and Wayside Goblins

Stitch & Story Crewel Embroidery Workshop: Wild Goats and Wayside Goblins

Crewel is an ancient form of embroidery that uses wool instead of cotton. It dates from at least the eleventh century, and its most famous use is in the Bayeaux Tapestry, which tells the story of the Battle of Hastings in 1066.

Led by textile artist Carrie Buchanan, come and try your hand – or improve your skill – at making a piece of crewel art, and learn how embroidery can tell a story. Accompanied by storyteller Becca Harris, who will relate tales from Northumbrian folklore to weave into the threads.

Stitch your own folkloric goat and hear a story woven of Cheviot Wild Goats, rock carvings, and strange creatures of the wayside. You’ll also be invited – time allowing – to share a story of your own about your work, although this is entirely optional!

All materials provided and no experience necessary. Tea, coffee & cake available.

The event takes place at The Bryneich Studio.
