La traviata

La traviata

Ford & Etal Estates is hosting two open-air opera performances this summer in the spectacular setting of Ford Castle courtyard. Tonight Opera Brava, Britain’s leading outdoor touring opera company, will present La traviata.

Verdi’s La traviata, is set in bohemian Paris and follows a tragic tale of passion between Alfredo and the consumptive courtesan Violetta, which threatens to shame the young man’s family. The music is full of extravagant melody and rich in operatic favourites such as and the famous Brindisi exuberant Sempre libera.

This production brings out all the emotional colour, from the first discovery of love, through painful confrontation to the inevitable conclusion. It is sung in English and the role of Violetta is performed by the Polish/Scottish soprano Natasha Day.

Bring rugs, and your own chairs for comfort. we will have porters to help you carry your things. Gates open at 5.30pm so you can relax and enjoy this incredible setting and feel the atmosphere build in the run up to this very special open-air performance which begins at 7:30pm.
