Experience a traditional, Victorian Christmas this December with two of Charles Dickens’ acclaimed ghost stories in the beautiful setting of Lady Waterford Hall at Ford, Northumberland.
Dickensian actor James Swanton returns to Ford to perform A Christmas Carol and The Haunted Man. These tales are filled with memorable characters and spine-chilling spectres that bring with them messages of hope and redemption.
Dickens’ enduring masterpiece A Christmas Carol follows the miserly Scrooge as he is visited by the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come in the hope he can change the course of his selfish and meaningless life.
The Haunted Man tells the story of Mr Redlaw, a retired chemist, who makes a bargain with his ghostly double to forget the pain and mistakes of his past by erasing his memory. On closing the bargain, he realises that without his past sorrow his life is empty, as he discovers “but for some trouble and sorrow we should never know half the good there is about us.”
