Jubilee Beacon at Watchlaw Farm

Jubilee Beacon at Watchlaw Farm

All are welcome to attend the lighting of a beacon at Watchlaw, part of the national chain of beacons being lit to celebrate Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee, 2nd June 2022, at 9pm.

This will be a historic event, a celebration of Her Majesty’s service to us all, so please come and be part of the beacon chain that unites us across all of our islands. It is very unlikely that this nation will ever see another Platinum Jubilee.

This will be one of 1500 beacons across the nation. Visibility from the site at Watchlaw is excellent and we can expect to see several more beacons on the Lammermuirs and up the Tweed Valley.

At 9.09pm precisely you will hear a specially composed tune, played on the Northumbrian Pipes and  synchronised with pipers and musicians across the country.

The Beacon itself will be lit at 9.45pm, sunset locally is at 9.42pm on that day.

Light refreshments will be available in return for donations to the Royal British Legion of which Her Majesty is Patron. There is ample car parking in the grass field. Please wear appropriate clothing depending upon the weather forecast, especially with regard to footwear.

There will be no toilet facilities.

Dogs are welcome so long as they bring their owners on leads.

Directions

The beacon will be built on the site of previous beacons at Watchlaw Farm. The grid reference is NT 958 392. Watchlaw Farm is located off the B6353 road between Ford and Lowick, about 1 mile east of Ford.  The entrance to the event will be signed.
