Ford & Etal Visitor Centre

The Visitor Centre at Heatherslaw is the perfect starting point when visiting Ford & Etal Estates. Here you’ll find information on the many attractions at Ford & Etal Estates; from steam trains and working mills to heavy horses and castles, as well as learning something about the areas rich and fascinating history.

Learn about life on this working estate and the challenges it faces. We have maps of local walks and cycle routes to help you explore the countryside. The Centre is not staffed full-time but when manned there is always a friendly face on hand to answer questions.

Find us at Heatherslaw, over the bridge from the Light Railway, and across the road from Heatherslaw Corn Mill and Boes Cafe.

Car Parking:  Parking for the Visitor Centre is situated adjacent to the B6354 and opposite Heatherslaw Railway. There is additional car parking behind the Visitor Centre and two disabled parking spaces beside the Visitor Centre (postcode: TD12 4TJ), all accessed from the B6353 at the T-junction which displays a ‘No Through Road’ sign.  Turn into this road and follow it for about a mile – you will come to the Heatherslaw Mill site where you will see signs for parking and disabled parking

Accessibility: The walk from this car park across the bridge to the Visitor Centre is about 200 yards. There is a slight incline from car park to bridge then a level surface. The Visitor Centre is disabled accessible

Facilities: Public toilets are usually open seasonally from April-early November.
