Ford and Etal Estates boasts some of the most beautiful and accessible countryside in Northumberland which can be explored along the many quiet lanes, footpaths and bridleways around the area – all well waymarked.

Leaflets with full details of walks of varying grades and distances are available from Heatherslaw Visitor Centre and other venues around the Estates. Advice for walking groups is readily available.

Alternatively, if you would like a more leisurely stroll take time to find out about the hidden delights of the villages of Ford and Etal with our leaflets ‘Footsteps around Ford’ or ‘A Stroll Round Etal’ also available from the Visitor Centre.

An easy walk of approx. 2 miles, through fields and down a quiet lane.
A walk of approx. 3.5 miles through fields and round quiet back roads, with magnificent views of the Cheviots and Eildon Hills.
A walk of 4-7 miles round this historic site, now an SSSI, with the option to extend and take in stunning views over the Scottish Borders.
An easy 3 mile route from Heatherslaw, returning along the river from Ford bridge.
A walk of 3+ miles to Ford, across fields and passing the Heavy Horse Centre at Hay Farm.
A linear walk from Heatherslaw to Etal and back, following the Route 68 cycle path.
A lovely walk of approx 6 miles along the River Till and across fields, open access land and quiet lanes.
