The Sled Dog Association of Scotland once again returns to Ford & Etal to hold a championship race weekend near Milfield, at Ford West Woods (access from A697 Milfield - signposted to Kimmerston) on Saturday 4th & Sunday 5th March.
Racing will commence between 8am and 9am, both days, with teams of up to eight dogs taking their drivers, aka mushers, around the exciting twists and turns offered by this highly popular venue.
Classes consist of dog teams of between 2 and 8 dogs pulling custom made rigs. There are also classes for single dogs in Bikejor, scooter and canicross, the latter being those keen enough to run with their dogs. In addition there are junior classes were children aged 8-11 years race with one dog whilst those aged 12-15 race with 2 dogs.
Events usually take place in the colder months, between October and March. SDAS is celebrating its 25th year in this sport and has provided an annual championship series of events since its inception in 1991, allowing mushers, and their teams, to collect points from each race they attend, which count towards their final placing, at the end of the season.
Racing will be finished around 1pm both days by which point both dogs and mushers will be ready for lunch and an afternoon nap!
Spectators are invited to come along and watch, and anyone who has an interest in this sport can find out more on the SDAS website, or on Facebook or Twitter.
The SDAS is proud to be sponsored by CSJ Dog Foods.
